Jenny Tibbels
Hello! I’m Jenny, the founder of 55B. My life has been a journey of storytelling through the arts, and I named my company 55B after a part of the brain that lights up when we hear stories.
The projects I produce reflect my formative experiences of community and art as activism - growing up in a family of community organizers in Baltimore and studying how the arts can impact social change in post-apartheid South Africa.
Producer: PEN America’s 2023 World Voices Festival, Caborca’s Octopus’s Garden and tour of Zoetrope in Cuba with Yaremis Félix, Danielle Russo Performance Project’s dance and film installation SENTINEL, recording artist Ursula Rucker’s premiere of My Father’s Daughter, and a South African Play Festival at Baltimore’s Theatre Project.
Associate Producer: PEN America’s 2022 World Voices Festival, The Freedom Theatre of Palestine’s The Siege at NYU Skirball Center, EXO-Tech Music Ensemble at Pioneer Works, and the 2016 Prelude Festival at the Segal Theatre Center.
Additional production credits include projects with BAM, Creative Time, The Chocolate Factory, SITI Company Lab, The Ride New York, The Shed, the american vicarious, and Tate Strategy. I earned my MFA in Theater at Columbia University, and I’m a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and the theatre company Caborca. I started and ran the theater program at Bard High School Early College in Manhattan and taught Public Speaking at St. John’s University in Queens.
